Black Walnuts: Wild Bounty And More Lore

My mother and father are gone but they both loved to go “nut picking” with their station wagon loaded with children. The outing was an adventure, a hunt and fun in the crisp fall air. The resulting memories are etched on my soul.

Editor's note: We've updated this story on our front page for 2015. Since interest in edible landscaping is on the rise, a the nut crop this year is abundant, let's see more people out there picking nuts and growing native nut trees.
