Coogan Farm Picnic; Fairs Weekend
Bring a blanket, lawn chairs, picnic baskets for the DPNC-Coogan Farm community picnic, 5 to 9 p.m., Saturday Sept. 6. Free. Rain or shine. Children's activities, music by the Cajun country band Big Mamou. Food vendors include Zest Fresh Pastry, Meadowstone Farm cheese, Hunts Brook Farm pizza. Free shuttle buses from Mystic Seaport's north lot (opposite Latitude 41 restaurant).

India Point Park Seafood Festival, Sunday, Sept. 7, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., celebrates fresh-caught seafood. Food trucks, local wineries and breweries, some of the Ocean State's most talented chefs, along with restaurants, food distributors, local companies, artists and non-profit organizations to celebrate the end of the summer. Should you need an equine fix and just want to see minis to draft horses, head to an agricultural fair near you. The Vermont State Fair is a good one, through Sept. 7 in Rutland. Admission ranges from $10 to $15; check out discount days.
